The Mixtape EP is the debut EP of the melodic death metal band Meridian Dawn. It was released on March 25, 2014.[1] The mixtape features a guest appearance from Joacim "Jake E" Lundberg (ex-Amaranthe) on the track "Dressed In Ice".[2][3] "Thieves" was first included on the mixtape, and would be released as a lyric video single.[4][5][6][7]

Background and recording

“The Mixtape EP” is a compilation of three different recording and production sessions the band went through over the course of a year.

“Thieves”, “The Fever Syndrome”, and “Dressed In Ice (Feat. Jake E of Amaranthe)” are all original material mixed, produced, and mastered by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Scar Symmetry, Watain, Solution .45) at The Panic Room studio in Skövde, Sweden.[8]

“I Don’t Wanna Be Me” is a cover tribute to Peter Steele and the members of Type O Negative. Mixed, produced, and mastered by Daniel Antonsson (Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity, Dimension Zero) at Gothenburg Rock Studio in Göteborg, Sweden.

The final track on the EP, “Descent”, is another cover tribute, this time for modern metal pioneers Fear Factory. It was mixed and engineered by bassist Nicholas Ziros (Meridian Dawn, Into The Moat, Remembering Never) and mastered by Jeff Cloyes (311, Lauryn Hill, Plies) at JamPro Music Factory located in Reno, Nevada United States.

The cover art was created by Gustavo Sazes (Morbid Angel, Arch Enemy, James LaBrie) with concept assistance from vocalist Antony Hämäläinen.[9]
