Dog of Flanders (フランダースの犬, Furandāsu no inu) is a 1997 Japanese anime film. It was based on the Japanese television series aired on Nippon Television from 10 October 1992 to 27 March 1993. Both the television series and this film are inspired by the book A Dog of Flanders by Ouida.

Plot

Based on the Flemish novel by Oui´da, this movie represents the bond between a boy and his ever so faithful dog living in the 19th century of Belgium.

The quite emotional story shows the boys struggles in life as his grandfather dies and leaves him with his dog.

It shows how the hopes of becoming a great classical painter have been seemingly crushed by his grandfathers passing and the way he takes after that tragedy.

The film was released on VHS in 1999 and later released on DVD in March 2000.
