The Key tegu (Echinosaura keyi) is a species of lizard endemic to Ecuador.[1]

Taxonomy

Echinosaura keyi is the type species of the genus Echinosaura.[1] This genus was formerly known as Teuchocercus Fritts & H.M. Smith, 1969,[2] but it is no longer recognized.[1]

Etymology

The specific name, keyi, is in honor of American physician and amateur herpetologist George Key (1942-1999).[3]

Geographic range

The Key tegu is only found in Ecuador with records from Esmeraldas and Pichincha.[1]
