The men's 100 metre backstroke competition of the swimming events at the 1999 Pan American Games took place on 6 August at the Pan Am Pool.^[1] The last Pan American Games champion was Jeff Rouse of US.^{[2][3][4][5][6][7]}

This race consisted of two lengths of the pool, all in backstroke.^[8]

It was the first time a non-American won this event at the Pan American Games.
