Swami Chinmayanand

Swami Chinmayanand (born 3 March 1947) is a former union minister state of India. He was minister of state for internal affairs in Third Vajpayee Ministry. He was elected to 13th Lok Sabha from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in 1999. He was member of 10th Lok Sabha from Badaun in 1991 and from Machhlishahr in 1998.

He was born in Gonda district in 1947 in a royal family of Avadh, but renounced royalty as a young man inspired by the teachings of Buddha and Mahavir. He completed MA from Lucknow University. He is unmarried. His interests include tantra, philosophy, yoga and Hindu mythology. He also completed doctorate. He is the Editor of two monthly magazines, Pramarath and Vivek Rashmi. In 2011, a girl who had spent several years at his ashram filed a complaint of abduction and rape against him. In April 2018, the U.P. Government withdrew the case.
