Sutherland Sound

Sutherland Sound is a sound of the South Island of New Zealand, discovered by pioneering explorer Donald Sutherland in 1883. It is the smallest of the sounds which make up the coast of Fiordland, and the only one with limited sea access (owing to a large sandbar at the entrance to its narrower section). It is the second most northerly of the sounds, 22 kilometres southwest of Milford Sound and eight kilometres northeast of Bligh Sound, and is 10 kilometres in length.
