Biography

Surabhi Santosh is an Indian model, classical dancer and actress who has appeared in Kannada and Malayalam films. After making her debut in Kannada with S Narayan’s Dushtaa (2011), Surabhi appeared in a leading role in Saran's Aayirathil Iruvar (2017).[1]

Personal Life

Surabhi was born in Trivandrum to Malayali parents Sindhu and Santosh Kumar, who is a former Colonel in the Indian Army. She is a B.A., LL.B. graduate and a Bharatanatyam dancer. She currently resides in Bengaluru.[2]

Career

Surabhi made her acting debut in veteran filmmaker S. Narayan's action drama film, Dushtaa (2011) opposite Pankaj. She then appeared in Jataayu (2013), another Kannada film opposite Raaj. During the release of the film, another co-star Roopashri was critical of the team for featuring Surabhi heavily in the promotions ahead of her.[3][4]

In 2017, her long delayed Tamil film, Aayirathil Iruvar (2017) by Saran was released after being in production for three years. Featuring her opposite Vinay, the actress took on the stage name of Swasthika for her stint in Tamil.[5][6][7]

After a gap of three years taken to complete her education, in 2017, she returned to acting and Kannada cinema in Priyanka Upendra starrer 2nd Half.[8][9] When the film hit theatres in June 2018, her role in it was widely appreciated by critics and audience alike. The New Indian Express, in its review, wrote "Surabhi Santhosh is the soul of the film with the revolving mostly around her. Even though she doesn't have much screen space, 2nd Half doesn't make for a complete picture without her".[10] Sandalwood Cinema mentioned "Surabhi Santhosh is also a terrific performer you cannot miss"[11] while CiniBuzz appreciated her choice of comeback film, stating that, "Surabhi in her come back to Kannada cinema after four years has picked a good role. She is a treat to watch on screen".[12] The News Minute wrote that she had done a "decent job" as Sharanya, her character in the film, along with her co-star and screen pair Niranjan.[13]

Surabhi has marked her debut in the Malayalam with the 2018 film Kuttanadan Marpappa in which Kunchacko Boban plays the lead.[14] Her next release in Malayalam is director Sugeeth's fantasy-horror film Kinavalli.[14][15]
