Stephen Adler (journalist)

Stephen Adler is an American journalist, lawyer, author, and print editor.

Career

He began his career as a reporter for Tampa Times and Tallahassee Democrat. He joined The American Lawyer in 1983.

He left TAL in 1988 for The Wall Street Journal as legal editor. He was promoted to assistant managing editor in 1998. Another promotion was to deputy managing editor in 2000.

He is the current editor-in-chief of Reuters News. He replaced David Schlesinger who is now the chairman of Thomson Reuters China. Adler was editor-in-chief of BusinessWeek from 2004-2010 before joining Thomson Reuters in 2010 as senior vice president and editorial director.

Adler was at The Wall Street Journal as an investigative editor for sixteen years.

Awards

Adler was nominated for a National Magazine Award for his American Lawyer article.

He won the Benjamin Rush Award from Dickinson College.

In 1995, Adler's book, The Jury: Trial and Error in the American Courtroom, was awarded the American Bar Association's Silver Gavel Award.
