St George's Singers

St George's Singers is a large choral society founded in 1956 and based in Poynton, Cheshire. The choir regularly performs at venues across Manchester, with repertoire including major classical choral works alongside more unusual modern works and commissions. Its current Musical Director is Neil Taylor, and its current president is Marcus Farnsworth.[1] Past Musical Directors include Stephen Williams. The choir also has strong links with the Royal Northern College of Music and Chetham's School of Music.

The choir has received critical acclaim for its performances of JS Bach's B Minor Mass at the Bridgewater Hall,[2] and in 2015 staged one of the largest ever concerts held at Gorton Monastery with their performance of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius.[3]

In addition to their regular concert programme around Greater Manchester the choir has also performed on BBC Radio 3's In Tune and the Daily Service,[4] and regularly tours the UK and further afield, with past tours to Helsinki, Tallinn, Kraków and Budapest; more locally the choir's annual "Singing Day" regularly attracts over 200 singers to learn and perform choral music.
