St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School, Thoothukudi, is administered by the Madurai Province of the Society of Jesus and was founded in 1884 and is the oldest school in Tuticorin.[1][2][3] It is named after the Jesuit missionary to India St. Francis Xavier.

History

It owes its origin to a Parish school built in 1600's during the Portuguese rule in Tuticorin.[4] In 1920 Xavier's had 563 pupils.[5] Xavier in Thoothukudi was registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act in 1960. In 1976 it was declared a minority institution.[6]

Extracurricular activities

The school has a Naval NCC cadets section.[7]
