St. John's School, Marhauli, Varanasi is an English-medium, private school located in the city of Varanasi, India. Established in 1987, St. John's School, Marhauli is one of the most successful educational institutions in the city. The school motto Vidya Dadati Vinayam constantly proclaims that education alone can bring about human development — development of the whole man. St. John's is the only school in the city to teach moral values as a subject till 13th. The main moto of the school authority is to make their children rich in education and moral values. Here the children are advised to select and confirm their aim from some of the basic classes. As of growing technology St. John also made many changes to their administration and are now using smart classes, computer labs and much more, thus making all the concepts of the students crystalline clear.

History

St. John's School, Marhauli, was established in 1987 under the aegis of the Catholic Diocese of Varanasi. From modest beginnings, the school has grown to become a center of academic excellence in the city. Father Peter, the first principal of the school, played an instrumental role in its growth and success. Over a period of more than two decades, the school has imparted education to thousands of students who have become successful doctors, technocrats, professionals and entrepreneurs. The school compares favorably with most modern schools in the state. In 2001, the school modified its dress policy for senior girls from gray pleated skirts to long grey-checked.[1]

Administration

The school is one of the three schools administered by the Catholic Diocese of Varanasi, the other two being St. John's School, DLW and St. John's School, Ledhupur. It is under the religious jurisdiction of the Bishop of the Diocese of Varanasi and receives active involvement of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod in its administration. The school aims at the education of the catholic community around and extends its services to the members of the other communities. The revolutionary action has changed the school's infra and school is on the way to construct a new building equal to the old one in which both the shift are there; after the construction of the new building both the shifts will at the same time.

Curriculum

The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi. It prepares students for the I.C.S.E. (10 year course) and I.S.C. (12 year course). The curriculum includes: English (Language and Literature), Hindi, Sanskrit, History & Civics, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Commerce, Accountancy, Computer Studies and Arts (Drawing).

Hindi is taught from L.K.G onwards. English is the medium of instruction, communication and examination.

Extra curricular activities

St. John's School believes that a sound moral, physical and cultural training is as important as academic & scholastic instruction in preparing students for their role in life. Great importance is, therefore, attached to games, sports and physical exercises. Dramatics, debates, general knowledge and quiz competitions keep the students mentally alert and abreast of the time. The school has an academy every week for creative exercises.

Achievements

The School has a good record in ICSE exams. The School hosted Zonal Level Quiz competition 2014.
