Southern Tech opened in August 1966 as one of the first rural Career and Technology Centers in the state.

Curriculum is competency based with a focus on trade specific certification attainment. In addition, some programs offer AP level high school credit and Dental Hygiene is aligned with a bachelor’s degree program through the University of Oklahoma.

Southern Tech’s Biotechnology program is partnered with the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation research laboratories and the Oklahoma State University Institute for Agricultural Biosciences.

Additional programs have been added to meet the needs of area employers and provide training in engineering-related fields. New this year, is a two instructor Pre-Engineering program targeted to prepare high school juniors and seniors for entry into university schools of engineering.

The service industry is represented with programs in many aspects of health, building trades, transportation repair, computer applications, cosmetology and many more.

Secondary students residing in the Southern Tech district are eligible to attend tuition free. Adult students may be eligible for financial aid.

Student organizations

The National Technical Honor Society has an active chapter on this campus.

Southern Tech is also active in the Tech Centers That Work initiative. HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America), SkillsUSA and BPA (Business Professionals of America) are all student organizations that are active on this campus.
