Songs of Love is the first commercially released solo record by the singer/songwriter Mark Eitzel. It was released on Diablo Records as a side project while Eitzel was still a member of American Music Club.

The album was recorded with Eitzel performing on his own with an acoustic guitar. Most of the tracks were recorded live at The Borderline in London, United Kingdom, on January 17, 1991, with the exception of the last two tracks which are acoustic studio recordings.

With the exception of "Take Courage", most of the songs had either already appeared on American Music Club albums, or would do so in the future. Five songs ("Firefly", "Western Sky", "Blue and Grey Shirt", "Last Harbour" and "Jenny") were from California, two ("Gary's Song" and "Outside This Bar") were from Engine. "Room Above the Club" was an a cappella version of the opening track on the band's first album, The Restless Stranger. "Crabwalk" was later recorded and released on Everclear later in 1991. "Chanel No. 5" was recorded at the same sessions but kept back for the B-side of the "Rise" single. "Nothing Can Bring Me Down" was an early version of American Music Club's "What Godzilla Said to God When His Name Wasn't Found in the Book of Life" on the album Mercury.
