History

Md. Ali Akbar ( an Irani descendant) was a successful businessman and a local judge of Noakhali Sonapur. He owned many Lands, amongst them he donated many for the welfare of the public of that region. He established educational Institutions, Mosques and Market for the development of the district. Sonapur Ali Akbar High School was established in early 1971. His initiatives are still being of great help and the family is still very much famous for their good deeds and helpfulness.

The Bazra Shahi Mosque was built by Aman Allah in 1741-42 during the reign of the Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah. Between 1911 and 1928, Bazra zamindars Khan Bahadur Ali, Ali Akbar and Khan Bahadur Mujir Uddin Ahmad had it extensively repaired and decorated with mosaics made from colored shards of ceramic. It is in a fairly good state of preservation, and is on the government Department of Archaeology's list of protected sites.
