The Shōgitai (彰義隊, "League to Demonstrate Righteousness") was an elite corps of the shogunate formed in 1868 during the Bakumatsu period in Japan.

The Shōgitai took a large part in the battles of the Boshin War, especially at the Battle of Toba–Fushimi, and the Battle of Ueno, where they were nearly exterminated.[1][2]
