Sarah Jane Thomas (born 5 June 1952) is a British actress, born in London, probably best known for her television appearances as Enid Simmons in Worzel Gummidge (1980), and as Glenda Wilkinson in Last of the Summer Wine (1986–2010). Thomas also made a brief cameo appearance in the fifth episode of the original Blackadder series (1983), 'the Witchsmeller Pursuivant', as a peasant girl who dies of the Black Death in the pre-credit sequence. She also appeared in a Christmas episode of Heartbeat (December 29, 1996), called 'Charity Begins at Home.'

Career


Thomas began her career on screen when she appeared in Special Branch (1970).

Thomas appeared in the popular sitcom Last Of The Summer Wine In 1985, as Glenda. She continued with the series until it finished in 2010. Her other appearances included The Velvet Glove (1977), as a Nurse, Together (1980), as Alison Warner and Worzel Gummidge (1979-81), as Enid Simmons, Miss Maple and Enid The Maid.

Thomas’s only film role came in 1995 when she appeared in Madagascar Skin (1995).

Theatre appearances

In December 2007, Thomas starred in Cinderella at the Assembly Hall Theatre as the Fairy Godmother, appearing with Tom Vaughan, from Hollyoaks, and Barney Harwood. In 2008/09, she again starred as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, at the Grand Theatre in Swansea, alongside Su Pollard and Chris Jarvis.

From December 2009 to January 2010 she appeared in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Malvern Theatre, alongside Mike Fischetti and Colin Baker.
