Career
From a young age, SR Kathir had a dream of being a cinematographer and pursued it in college by producing a short film with his friends as the cast and crew. He joined the film industry as an assistant cinematographer to Mr.Ramji and worked on films such as Dumm Dumm Dumm, Mounam Pesiyadhae, Virumbugiren, Sandhya (Hindi), Supari(Hindi), Churaliya Hai Tumne(Hindi).
JackPot (Hindi 2004) is SR Kathir's first movie as an individual cinematographer. Katradhu Tamizh was his first movie in Kollywood for which he received 'Tamilnadu Cinema Journalists Association' award for best cinematographer 2007. His next movie was Subramaniyapuram which is a cult classic and earned him Star Vijay Awards for best cinematographer 2008. He went on to work for blockbusters like Naadodigal, Poraali, Rajathandhiram, Yennai Arindhaal, Vetrivel, Kidaari. Kidaari bagged him Vikatan Awards for best cinematographer 2016.
His latest movie Asuravadham (2018) which earned him an unanimous appreciation for his cinematography from the industry and the viewers.
