Rocky Johnson (born July 24, 1971) is an American mixed martial artist. He is most notable for his win by submission over future UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson.

Mixed martial arts career

Since starting his mixed martial arts career, Johnson currently holds a professional record of 21–17.[2]

Amateur mixed martial arts career

Before turning professional, Johnson debuted as an amateur for the Battlequest promotion, getting a keylock submission win over AJ Affitica at Battlequest 1 on August 23, 2003.[3] Despite already having one professional bout, Johnson faced Richard Ponce in another amateur bout at Battlequest 3 on June 26, 2004. He won the fight via rear-naked choke submission.[4]

Sparta Combat League

Johnson made his SCL debut on November 9, 2012, facing Brad Foust at SCL: Gladiators. He won the fight via first round KO. In his second fight in the promotion, Johnson challenged Dequan Townsend for the SCL Welterweight Championship at SCL: Havoc at the Hellespont on September 27, 2013. He won the fight via unanimous decision.[5]

For his first title defense, Johnson faced Matt Cox at SCL: Monarchs of Sparta on December 14, 2013.[6] He lost the fight via split decision.[7]

Personal life

Rocky owns his own business, Ugly Ear Gear since 2005. The company specializes in making wrestling and MMA gear.[8]
