Bob Cornford

Robert Leslie "Bob" Cornford (May 15, 1940 - July 18, 1983) was a British jazz pianist and composer.

Cornford was born in Brazil to British nationals, and received classical training in music, including studies at the Royal College of Music. He joined the ensemble of John Dankworth in the 1960s, doing work as an arranger and orchestrator on the side for the BBC; he also went on to compose for the NDR Radiophilharmonie and the DR Big Band.

Cornford played extensively as a sideman, for musicians such as Tony Coe, Lee Konitz, Chris Laurence, Phil Lee, Humphrey Lyttelton, Palle Mikkelborg, Mark Murphy, Pat Smythe, Trevor Tomkins, Bobby Wellins, Kenny Wheeler, and Norma Winstone. He also accompanied vocalists such as Scott Walker and Gitte Haenning. He died of a heart attack in 1983.
