Retopia (festival)

REtopia is an annual technical symposium of the Department of Energy and Environment at TERI School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi.[1] Retopia refers to an ideal state or situation, evolving from the word 'Utopia'. The symposium provides a common platform to people from the government, academic institutions, industries, start-ups etc. to discuss clean energy prospects on environmental, technical, social and commercial lines. Retopia has witnessed eminent participation from MNRE, World Bank, TCS, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Indian Energy Exchange, Suzlon etc. in the past.[2] The 2014 edition of Retopia was inaugurated by Piyush Goel who holds different energy ministries in India such as Power, Renewable Energy and Coal.[3]

Expert Session

Industrialist, policy makers , change-makers, academicians etc. from the domain of renewable energy are invited for a session of knowledge exchange. Ideas, experiences and opinions pertaining to the theme of Retopia and pressing topics circulating the energy market are discussed. Talk by the Guest speakers and a panel discussion with active participation from the attendees has been the trend. In the past, speakers from General Electric, PTC, CLP, Green Business Certification Institute GBCI, ReNew Power, Sustainable division of ITC Hotels etc. have attended the event [4]

Renewable Energy Design Challenge (Syncreate)

Entrepreneurs and Technocrats have the opportunity to show-case their technical and managerial skills to a panel of experts from the market. The participants have an option to develop business models aiming to minimize losses, increase efficiency or conserve energy of existing system or replace them entirely by eco-friendly solutions. They can also present business ideas based on social causes or awareness . An event to network, receive constructive feed-back and monetary benefits for sustainable solutions.[5]

Trouble Shooting RE Industry Problem (Quest)

The participants test their knowledge and expertise by solving real-life problems related to renewable energy. A series of problems provided by various companies are displayed on the website of REtopia, and the participants are expected to comes up with a solution. The event provides an opportunity to understand the problems faced in the market and gain recognition by the right people for their solutions. [6]

Sustainovation (Eureka)

Entrepreneurs from various domains of energy and environment share their valuable experiences and insights with the participants. A unique event to learn about sustainable businesses and network with entrepreneurs. Founders of Grassroots & Rural Innovative Development GRID, Mera Gaon Power, Eco-Eclectic Technologies, Edible Routes etc. have delivered talks in REtopia and the list continues to grow.

Poster Presentation (Envision)

Poster presentation on topics related to renewable energy, energy access, rural electrification, micro-grids, micro-financing of sustainable solutions, energy conservation, energy efficiency, energy management etc. The poster dimensions are 120 cm (Height) and 84 cm (Width) and are judged by market and academic experts. [7]

Photography Competition (Capture)

A photography competition to spread awareness and gain insight about everyday interaction with energy and environment. A photographic lens often capture truths that are missed by the naked eye, a platform to share that story. [8]

General Quiz

A general quiz that covers other important subjects besides Energy, Environment, Climate Science etc.[9]

Swatch Bharat Mission

On the 4th edition of Retopia, Piyush Goel along with the then Chancellor at Teri University, Rajendra K. Pachauri participated in first ever national cleanliness mission at Teri University. They themselves took broom sticks and cleaned the roads at Vasant Kunj where Teri School of Advanced Studies is located.
