Rescue squad

A rescue squad is a term used in the United States to refer to an emergency service agency that provides emergency medical services and may also provide technical rescue.

Rescue squads provide emergency medical services (EMS), operating from ambulances and fly-cars. They provide emergency medical care after trauma and to medical patients. Such rescue squads may provide either basic life support or advanced life support. The staff of such agencies possess any number of certifications including emergency medical responder, emergency medical technician, and paramedic.

Rescue squads may also provide technical rescue, operating from light and heavy rescue vehicles and rescue boats. They rescue people from situations such as traffic collisions, machinery entrapments, confined spaces, trench collapses, structural collapses, and water hazards.
