Qualifying event

A qualifying event is an event that results in the opportunity to make changes to enrollment in employer-sponsored benefits for which a qualified beneficiary (employee and the dependents) is eligible for benefits under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985. Examples are the birth of a child, marriage, the end of employment, a reduction in working hours of the employee, and divorce of the employee.
