Pueraria montana var. lobata, the East Asian arrowroot,[2] is a perennial plant in the family Fabaceae.

Names

It is called () in Chinese, kuzu () in Japanese, and chik () in Korean.

Distribution

The plant is native to East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, and Russian Far East), Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam), and the Pacific (New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu).[3]

Use

The starch powder made from the East Asian arrowroot is called kudzu powder.

In Korea, arrowroot tea is made from either the root or the root starch.[4] In Japan, arrowroot tea is made from the root starch.
