HMS Prince Regent

Three ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Prince Regent, after numerous holders of the position of prince regent:

In addition, a Canadian ship launched as Prince Regent in 1812 later acquired the HMS prefix under a different name:

  • Prince Regent (1812) was a 16-gun ship launched in 1812 for Canada's Provincial Marine. She was re-rigged as a schooner and renamed Beresford (or General Beresford) in 1813, re-rigged again as a brig and renamed HMS Netley in 1814 when the Royal Navy took over the Provincial Marine, Admiralty policy being not to name vessels after living people, and then HMS Niagara in 1848 while she was serving as a base ship. She was broken up in 1843.
