Poultry disease

Poultry diseases are diseases that afflict poultry. Major types of poultry include the chicken, turkey, duck, goose and ostrich.

The eradication of poultry disease is very important to the poultry industry.

Viral diseases

• Chicken anaemia virus
• Lymphoid leucosis caused by avian sarcoma leukosis virus
• Marek's disease
• Newcastle disease
• Viral arthritis
• Turkeypox virus

Parasitic diseases

• Scaly leg, caused by the mite Knemidocoptes mutans
• Infestions:
  • Dermanyssus gallinae, the red poultry mite
  • Echidnophaga gallinacea, the stickfast flea

Bacterial diseases

• Infectious coryza in chickens
• Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale
• Riemerella anatipestifer
• Streptococcal infection in poultry

Protozoal diseases

• Histomoniasis (blackhead disease), caused by Histomonas meleagridis
• Coccidiosis
