Pongsiri Por Ruamrudee (Thai: พงษ์ศิริ พ.ร่วมฤดี; stylized as Pongsiri P. Ruamrudee) or Pongsiri Ladnongkee (พงษ์ศิริ ลัดหนองขี)[1] or simply known as Rambo, was a former Thai Muay Thai kickboxer popular and famous in the 80s and 90s. It has been recognized as the golden era of Muay Thai.[2][3]

Biography & career

Pongsiri had a real name that Paiboon Ladnongkee (ไพบูลย์ ลัดหนองขี) was born in Tambon Mueang Phlapphla, Amphoe Huai Thalaeng, Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand.[1]

He gained fame as a fighter with a fierce fighting style. He is often battled in a fight with his opponent, even though sometimes with disadvantages because of the smaller shape. For this reason, he is a favorite from Muay Thai fans and get that nickname "Rambo" like the Sylvester Stallone movie character.[3]

Every time before the match his staff waved a big black pirate flag and his trunk will also have a "skull & bones" symbol attached to it, as a unique identity.[3]

He has been fought with many famous fighters, such as Langsuan Panyuthaphum, Paluhadlek Sitchunthong, Hippy Singmanee, Toto Por Pongsawang, Charoensub Kiatbanchong, Tukatathong Por Pongsawang, Nung ubon "Tuan-pe" Sithlertchai, Maikel Lieuwfat etc. He has been training at Charoenmuang Gym, the gym of the legendary aggressive fighters such as Thongbai Chareonmuang, Somphong Chareonmuang.

In addition, he made history by fought with old rival which he had been defeated before, Pairojnoi "Iron Blood" Sor Siamchai in the main event of the title "Suek Onesongchai" by the famous promoter, Songchai Rattanasuban at Lumpinee Stadium on July 25, 1989 among tens of thousands of visitors and the promoters earned a staggering 3.2 million baht from the gate. Which is considered the most in the history of Mauy Thai at that time, the results of match. He is the winner with the points after end the fifth round. Besides this fight that was named Lumpinee Stadium the best fight in 20 years.[2][4]

Retirement

From using the body aggressively for fighting he must retire at age 25 only.[1][3] After retirement, he became a singer along the night club at night.[1] Even retired, but his reputation remains and became a role model for many next generation fighters, such as Saenmuangnoi Lukchaopormahesak (Samson Dutch Boy Gym),[5] Bovy Sor Udomson,[3] or Rambaa Somdet.

In early August 2016, with almost 46 years old, he came back to fight again with his old rival Langsuan Panyuthaphum in the special fight at Rajadamnern Stadium. The result is draw.[2]

Currently, Pongsiri has a son who's a fighter like him, is a Rambonoy Ladnongkee or Boonanant Ladnongkee.[6]
