Pleocola limnoriae is a species of tardigrades. It is the only species of Pleocola which belongs to the family Styraconixidae.
The species were named by Alexandre Cantacuzène in 1951 and both the genus and the species names are of Greek origin, the last one means the "range within a lake".
The species are founded in the North Atlantic.
History
It was discovered on a species Limnoria lignorum, the gribble in Roscoff, Brittany, France[1]
Between 1975 and 1983, Pleocola had more than a species, it had Pleocola coniferus as its second species until it became placed in that own species named Lepoarctus also containing just one species today.
