Patrick Brown (photographer)

Patrick Brown (born Jan 23, 1969) is an Australian photojournalist and war photographer, based in Bangkok, Thailand.[1] He is the recipient of a 2018 World Press Photo award in the category "General news, singles"[2][3] and the Australian Kodak Photographer of the Year award.[4][5]

He is the author of Trading to Extinction,[6] a book that took ten years to complete and documents illegal animal trading throughout Asia.[7]

Life and work

Brown was born in Sheffield, England,[5] but spent his childhood in the Middle East and Africa before his family finally settled in Perth, Western Australia.

World Press Award

Brown was awarded a World Press Photo award in the category "General news, singles" in 2018 for his work documenting the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.[3] The photograph showed the bodies of Rohingya refugees laid out after the boat in which they were attempting to flee Myanmar capsized.[8] The work was commissioned by Panos Pictures, for UNICEF.
