Outwood Academy Ormesby (formerly Ormesby School) is a mixed secondary school with academy status, located in the Netherfields area of Middlesbrough, England.[1] It has an enrolment of 708 pupils ages 11 to 16, with a comprehensive admissions policy.[2]

The school is operated by Outwood Grange Academies Trust, and the current principal is Angela Sweeten.[1] Susan Maidens chairs the local governing body, known as the academy council.[1]

History

Ormesby School first opened in September 1967.[3]

As part of the Building Schools for the Future programme the school relocated to new buildings in September 2010.[4]

Ormesby School chose to convert to academy status, with no sponsor organisation, reopening in September 2012 with the new status, but retaining its existing name and uniform.[5]

In September 2014 a new leadership team was appointed, led by Lynn James as headteacher. The school went on to be rated "Inadequate" and placed into special measures by Ofsted in April 2015, although was praised for "exceptionally strong leadership".[6][7] In September 2015 Ormesby School joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust, and reopened as Outwood Academy Ormesby.[1][8]

In 2017, the academy was judged to be "Good" overall by Ofsted.[9]
