Ora (mythology)
Ora (Albanian: Orë, definite form: Ora, pl.: Orët) is a mythological aspect in Albanian mythology and popular belief.[1][2]
Appearance
In Albanian folklore Ora is a mystical attribute that every human possesses from birth. Depending on the personality of the human, the spirit Ora may have a white face (faqebardhë) if the person who possesses it is brave and industrious, or it may have a black face (faqezezë) if the person who possesses it is lazy or cowardly.[1] Oras live in the forests, in the mountains, near the streams and lakes or in caves.[2]
Baron Franz Nopcsa releted the term to the ancient Greek Oreads, nymphs of the mountains.[2]
