Opydorscus fonsecae is a species of tardigrades in the genus Opydorscus being the only one of the family Halechiniscidae and is a subfamily of Orzeliscinae. The species is endemic to the deep ocean floor of the Atlantic Ocean off the shores of Ceará and Pernambuco of northeastern Brazil.[1] The genus and the species were named by Jeanne Renaud-Mornant in 1983.[1] The species named is named for Verónica Gomes da Fonsêca-Genevois.

The species was first discovered in the waters off the Brazilian state of Ceará, it was later observed in the waters off the state of Pernambuco.
