OppenheimerFunds is a global asset manager. The firm, with its subsidiaries, manages more than $249 billion in assets for over 13 million investor accounts, including sub-accounts, as of Dec 29, 2017.[2]

History

Founded in 1959, OppenheimerFunds is an asset manager whose 16 investment management teams oversee actively managed equity, fixed income, alternative, and multi-asset portfolios, as well as factor and revenue-weighted ETF strategies. [3].The company and its subsidiaries offer products and services to clients who include financial advisors and wealth managers and their clients, as well as institutional investors, such corporations, endowments and foundations, sovereign wealth funds, and their consultants. OppenheimerFunds and certain of its subsidiaries provide advisory services to the Oppenheimer group of funds, and OFI Global Asset Management offers services to institutions.

  • In 2012, OppenheimerFunds acquired SteelPath, based in Dallas, which enables clients and their investors to participate in master limited partnerships.
  • In 2015, the firm acquired RevenueShares to expand its offering into the smart-beta space.
  • In 2016, it launched a suite of Smart beta ETFs, including ESG offerings.[4]
  • In 2017, it acquired (SNW) Asset Management [5] Offered through its affiliate OFI Global, the transaction expanded OppenheimerFunds’ fixed income offering into high-quality municipal bonds and customized separately managed accounts.
  • In 2017, the firm opened its headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in London.[6] In addition, thefirm formed a joint venture with The Carlyle Group to provide global private credit for high net worth (HNW) investors and advisors primarily focused on the U.S. market. [7]

Philanthropy

The firm’s corporate philanthropy initiatives include its 10,000 Kids by 2020 program, which aims to introduce 10,000 students to numeracy programs through nonprofit partnerships and active employee volunteerism.[8] The firm works with organizations including the National Museum of Mathematics, the Boys & Girls Club, MATHSWORLDUK and Cross-Cultural Solutions.

Awards and recognition

OppenheimerFunds was named as the Best Place to Work in Money Management for 2017 by Pensions & Investments.[9] Fortune named the firm one of the 40 Best Workplaces in Financial Services[10] and Insurance, and 25 Best Large Workplaces in New York.[11] Lipper Fund Awards 21 of the firm’s funds earned 2017 Lipper Fund Awards, in four asset classes. The Lipper Awards honor funds that have delivered consistently strong risk-adjusted performance relative to peers. [12]
