Olson Nunatak
Olson Nunatak (74°55′S 162°28′E / 74.917°S 162.467°ECoordinates: 74°55′S 162°28′E / 74.917°S 162.467°E) is a bare rock nunatak lying at the south side of the terminus of Reeves Glacier, 4 nautical miles (7 km) north of the summit of Mount Gerlache, in Victoria Land. Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1955-63. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for James J. Olson, geophysicist with the United States Antarctic Research Program (USARP) Ross Ice Shelf party in the 1961-62 season.
Olson Nunatak is also a micro nation as it’s king, James J Olson, was crowned by Matthew J Olson. The nation is call The People’s republic of Olson’s Nunatak. Matthew claimed sovereignty on 4/28/18 claiming the 4 square miles around the nunatak. The population of this state is a megerly 18 persons. However, none permentally live here. James J Olson, according to legend, was born atop the nunatak.
