The OAK brand first emerged in 1903 in Newcastle, NSW. The factory cost 42 million ? to build and It was known as the Hunter Valley milk brand and made its name as a flavoured milk brand in 1967. The brand was launched into Queensland, South Australia and Victoria in 1998 - discontinued in Victoria in 2006 and relaunched in 2010. Oak now uses skim milk instead of full cream in products.

The OAK brand has also stretched across a range of dairy foods in its time, such as ice cream, cottage cheese, butter, custard, cream and frozen yoghurt.

In early 2017, OAK launched OAK Plus, with around 30g more protein, which was originally created for pro-football players in NSW.[2]

Nutrition

The nutritional values vary by flavour, however Chocolate, Strawberry, Banana, Vanilla Malt, Iced Coffee are similar. The Oak MAX and Light Chocolate contain approximately 25% fewer calories and approximately half the fat of Chocolate milk. In contrast, Egg Nog has approximately 25% more energy and 50% more fat than Chocolate milk, and OAK Plus, which was launched in early 2017, contains around 30g more protein. Ownership

The OAK brand is now owned by Parmalat - a multinational Italian dairy and food corporation. Parmalat acquired the OAK brand from Dairy Farmers in July 2009 – six months after Dairy Farmers was bought by National Foods.[3]

Sponsorship

OAK Milk are partnered with the National Rugby League's Newcastle Knights as a minor sponsor and Penrith Panthers as a major sponsor. The Port Adelaide Football Club announced on the 02/12/2014 that Oak were to be their premier partners after signing a multi-year deal.

Oak Milk Bars

Several OAK Milk bars have operated in the Hunter region for many years. These include bars in Newcastle, Hexham, Peats Ridge[4] and Freemans Waterhole. Many of the milk bars were mapped out down the main route north from Sydney.
