Ngaire
Ngaire (Māori: [ˈŋaeɾɛ]; sometimes anglicised as Nyree /ˈnaɪəri/), is a name most often found in New Zealand. It is possibly derived from the Māori Ngaere, but its origins are unclear except for the usage in New Zealand and that the pronunciation follows Maori phonetics. Further support to the possible origin is given by the 19th century spelling of the Taranaki town Ngaere that was corrected from Ngaire to Ngaere in 1909.
Unreferenced sources claim that it originally refers to a small swamp flower, or that it means flaxen. Referenced sources suggest that the name does have a link to marshy terrain.
