National Police Academy of Pakistan

National Police Academy is the national institute for training of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officers.The academy is located in Islamabad.

Since 1947, the training of Assistant Superintendents of Police was conducted at police college Sardah, an institution established in 1913. After 1971, makeshift arrangements were made and training of officers was conducted at the civil services academy Lahore and Police Training College, Sihala.

The National Police Academy was established in 1978 with the Commandant having his office in Islamabad in a rented building and the training wing with ASsP officers Mess, 31 km away at Soan camp, the training left a lot to be desired. National Police Academy with meager resources available could barely train the ASsP, while very few courses were offered to senior Police managers due to dearth of training facilities and lack of professional trainers.

Organization

The Academy is headed by a Commandant ,a PSP Officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police or Additional Inspector General of Police and assisted by a Deputy Commandant of the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police.The Course Commander, who is an officer of the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police is in charge of the training of the Assistant Superintendents of Police. Director senior Command Course looks after the training of DPOs
