National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research (Bengali: জাতীয় বস্ত্র প্রকৌশল ও গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউট) is also known as NITER. Located in Savar, Dhaka District, it is the largest undergraduate textile campus in Bangladesh. It offers the Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering and Fashion & Apparel Design in co-ordination with the University of Dhaka. The institute has a partnership between the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. It is a public-private partnership constituent educational institution under University of Dhaka.

History

NITER was originally a training center, Textile Industry Development Center (TIDC), a public institution which was established in January 1979 by the government of Bangladesh to impart training for professionals engaged in the textile manufacturing industry. In 1994, its name changed to National Institute of Textile Training Research and Design (NITTRAD). Later, the Ministry of Textiles and Jute decided to run NITTRAD under public–private partnership (PPP) program and handed over its operational management to Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. From 1 January 2013, the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, according to a suggestion from the University of Dhaka, changed the name of the Institute to National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research. From 2010 to 2011 session NITER started Bachelor of Science in Textile engineering course under the University of Dhaka.

It also provides practical and training classes of textile engineering to students of private universities in Bangladesh.

Campus

NITER is located on around 14 acres of land with a built up area of 1,29,995 square feet at Nayarhat of savar,on the Dhaka-aricha highway and enjoys excellent communication facilities connecting Dhaka and other important cities and towns of Bangladesh. There are two large building, Academic building & QC building for educational purpose. NITER has also a big playground. There is also a canteen in the campus.

Accommodation

There are two hall building for male and also two hall building for female student. For officers and stuffs there is also a resident building. NITER provides 100% accommodation for female students.

    Medium of Instruction

    The medium of Instruction will be English for all the undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

    The Curriculum of the Courses

    • A total of 164 credits of which the major course will be consist of 117 credits of the theoretical courses, 36 credits of practical, 9 credits of field work, industrial attachment and project and 2 credits for viva-voce. For graduation, a student has to complete all the credits according to the syllabus prescribed by the Dhaka University for the session S/he has been registered or admitted.

    Admission procedures and entry requirements

    Undergraduate courses

    A student must have to attend the admission test given by Technology Unit of University of Dhaka to get admitted into udergraduate programme. A candidate must have passed the H.S.C examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subject. For admission details visit here
