Morten Løkkegaard (born 20 December 1964) is a Danish politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Denmark. He is a member of Venstre, part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. He was elected to the European Parliament in July 2009.

Career

Morten Løkkegaard is a former Danish TV news host and now a Member of the European Parliament since 2009 where he was first time elected for the European Parliament. Morten Løkkegaard represented Denmark and the Danish Liberal party (Venstre) in the Group of the Alliance of Liberal and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) until 30 June 2014. He replaced Ulla Tornaes on 3 March 2016.

Morten Løkkegaard is the Vice Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) as well as a substitute in the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO). He is also a member of the Delegation with relations to South Africa and a substitute member of the delegation with relations to the U.S.

He is highly involved with issues related to communication on and about the EU, and to the creation of an actual European public sphere. He also works on issues related to jobs and growth creation - notably through a completion of the Single Market and through advocating the negotiation of large free trade agreements with our major trading partner (such as the BRICS and the U.S)

Morten Løkkegaard's main political focus evolves around his practical experience and background, since he has more than 20 years of experience with in the Danish press as a journalist and anchorman on national TV in Denmark.

For 15 years, he worked at Denmark’s national TV & Radio where he hosted political and entertainment television programmes.

In 2005, Morten Løkkegaard founded a communication consultancy firm where he, as the owner, provides communication advisory tasks, and performs the task as moderator at political debates and conferences.
