The Ministry of Defense of Mongolia (Mongolian:Монгол улсын Батлан хамгаалах яам) is an agency of the Government of Mongolia. The Ministry of Defense is the professional managing body of the Mongolian Armed Forces, and this body is responsible for reliably maintaining the country’s independence and its entire territorial and human security. The current Minister of Defense is Nyamaagiin Enkhbold.
Purpose
The Ministry of Defense is also coordinates the provision of strategic planning and policy guidance, and reforms of the armed forces. It also builds the army’s capability to engage in both peacekeeping and war-time activities, and undertakes special duties to maintain conditions for peace and stability.
History
On December 29, 1911, Mongolia gained independence from the Manchu Empire, and established its first five ministries. One of the ministries was the Ministry of Justice and Corruption, which was one of the predecessors to the Ministry of Defense.[1][2]
