Midfield

Midfield is the part of a sports field that lies approximately in the center. It is a term most commonly associated with American football and soccer to refer to the area in and around the center circle, as well as the players who occupy that region, and is also used in field hockey to describe the same area, or in rugby to refer to the area occupied by the players in the center positions.

The term "midfield" in baseball to describe the area between the infield (within the bases) and the outfield.

In American football, "midfield" refers to the halfway line.

Midfield is a term used in airport terminal planning to describe the airside area located between runways that accommodates various airport related buildings and structures.

In Formula One, "midfield" refers to the teams that are not as competitive as front runners, but still score some points over the season.
