Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway is an upcoming dark ride attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios in the Walt Disney World Resort.[1][2]

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway was first announced at the D23 Expo in July 2017[3] as part of the unveiling of 23 improvements to Disney Parks,[4] including 4 new rides across the theme parks.[5] It will replace The Great Movie Ride, which closed on August 13, 2017.[1][2]

The ride will be themed upon the Mickey Mouse shorts shown on Disney Channel, and will be the first Mickey Mouse-themed ride-through attraction in the history of Walt Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products.[6][7]

Ride experience

At the beginning of the ride, guests will be invited to watch the premiere of a new Mickey Mouse cartoon, in which Mickey and Minnie Mouse prepare for a picnic outing and encounter Goofy conducting a train.[5] According to Imagineer Kevin Rafferty, guests will then pass through a simulated movie screen (as in the 2013 short Get a Horse!) where they will experience a “zippy zany out-of-control adventure”.[1] Guests will then be transported into the cartoon and aboard Goofy's train, which takes them on a wild adventure.[5]

The ride features a new technology known as "2 and 12 D" (3D without glasses) to give depth to the 2D environments.[3][8] It will also include more hidden Mickeys than any existing ride.[8][9]
