MHA, originally standing for and formerly known as Methodist Homes for the Aged, is one of the largest British charities providing care, accommodation and support services for older people throughout England, Scotland and Wales.[2] It was established as an independent charity by the Methodist Church in 1943 and was formerly known as Methodist Homes for the Aged. The charity's head office is in Derby, with homes, housing and community services provided nationwide.

MHA publish an award-winning[3] magazine called Heart & Soul.

Charitable work

Established in 1943, MHA now delivers a range of services to over 17,800 individuals [1].

The charity run 90 care homes, both residential, specialist dementia care and nursing, as well as more than 70 retirement living communities and 58 Live at Home schemes for older people who live independently in their own homes. The Live at Home schemes aim to tackle loneliness and isolation among older people[1]. They serve approximately 10,330 older people supported through 57 Live at Home services in the community, 2,820 older people living independently in 70 retirement living communities with flexible support and personalised care, with a further seven sites in development, and 4,680 older people living in 88 care homes - residential, nursing and specialist dementia care – with two more in development [1].

Their services are provided by 7,000 staff supported by 5,500 volunteers [1].
