Memotec Data Incorporated

Memotec Data Incorporated was a small data processing and communications company based in Montreal, Canada, and which came into the spotlight when in 1987, under the leadership of its president, William McKenzie, it purchased the newly-privatized crown corporation Teleglobe Canada. Teleglobe had had a statutory monopoly on overseas telephony to and from Canada.

Characteristics

Bell Canada Enterprises acquired a minority stake in Memotec in 1987 and Kontron Holdings.

The company was re-incorporated in 1993 as Memotec Communications Incorporated and the company was acquired by Comtech EF Data (Comtech Communications Incorporated) of Tempe, Arizona. Memotec's core business today is in data optimization and it remains a Montreal-based company.
