Melissa Villaseñor (born October 9, 1987) is an American actress, stand-up comedian, and impressionist. She is currently a cast member on Saturday Night Live, having joined in the forty-second season.[1]
Career
Villaseñor was a semifinalist in season 6 of America's Got Talent. She has also done voice work for the animated shows Adventure Time, Family Guy and TripTank.[2] Most recently, Villaseñor has appeared on the second season of HBO's Crashing.[3]
Saturday Night Live
Villaseñor was introduced as a featured player on the October 1, 2016, episode of SNL alongside Mikey Day and Alex Moffat. Her debut was an impression of Sarah Silverman in the "Family Feud: Celebrity Edition" sketch.[4] Villaseñor is the first Latina cast member in SNL history.[5] She was promoted to the cast of repertory players in season 44.[6]
Personal life
Villaseñor grew up in Whittier, CA and attended Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, CA. At fifteen, Villaseñor started stand up at the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp in Hollywood, CA.[7][8]
After Villaseñor became a cast member of SNL, she deleted tweets that she had previously written that were viewed as racist. Villaseñor wrote tweets such as "A bossy black lady at my temp looks exactly like steve erkel. Ugly" and "I hate those mexicans on bikes, they threw something at my car. The world doesn't need them." and "My roommates dog resembles an old japanese man." SNL and Villaseñor declined to comment on the alleged racism.[9][10][11]
