Mawewe

Mawewe, or Maueva, was king of the Gaza Empire and son of king Soshangane Nxumalo.. Mawewe was born of a Swati woman whom king Soshangane had married.. At some point Mawewe felt that since he was older than uMzila his half brother who had a Tsonga mother.. Mawewe was burning with desire to be king of Gaza.. After the death of King Soshangane.. Mawewe began to attack half of his brothers.. That uncludes also his brother Mzila.. Mzila fled before his brother making his way to the transvaal in 1859 to seek for help to fight his brother.. Since Mawewe's rule was not so polite.. Mawewe hated the Portuguese.. Infact he wanted them out of Gaza territory.. Most Vatsonga youth was used in his army still as his father king Soshangane did.. As "AmaBuyandleya" in the old dialect of Tekeza.. Mostly it would be AmaVulandlela in isiZulu.. Mawewe's reputation to expand his rule was growing restless.. Most Clans and tribes were attacked or slaughtered.. People ran to Mzila.. They were growing tired of Mawewe.. When Mzila returned.. He had help from the Portuguese even though Mawewe's army was elite and strong and countless in number.. Mzila managed to defeat his brother.. Mawewe made his way to eSwatini present day Swaziland to seek for new beginnings.. He used the surname Mkhatshwa in which most of his descendants still uses today..
