Matt Doherty Jr.

Matt Doherty Jr. is a former Northern Irish professional association football player who played for Derry City FC.[1] He is the son of Matt Doherty Sr., who also played for (and eventually managed) the Derry club.

Career

As an amateur, Doherty played with Derry and District League teams, Don Bosco's F.C. and Foyle Harps Y.F.C. in his youth before signing as a pro for Derry City FC in the Irish League between 1956 and December 1960, when Glentoran paid £2.000 for his services. He scored 25 league goals in three seasons for Glentoran, before returning to Derry City in 1963, staying there until 1970.
