Mariano's Fresh Market

Mariano's Fresh Market is a Midwestern upscale grocery chain that opened its doors in 2010. Mariano's is owned by Kroger 44 Mariano's locations exist.[1]

First location

The first Mariano's located in Arlington Heights, Illinois, opened its doors to the public in July of 2010. It was built by Osman Construction.The location consists of 60,000 square feet of retail space, spanning two floors. On the upper floor there is outdoor seating available for public use.[2]

Mariano's offers a selection of different specialty departments in store. All departments are not present in each store.

Vero

Vero is Mariano's in house coffee and gelato counter. Customers can order a variety of Coffee drinks ranging from espresso's and iced coffees to special seasonal creations. Customers are able to order their coffee and consume it while they shop for other items. Vero also serves hand scooped gelato, many flavor varieties are offered from the classic chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavors all the way to special flavors such as "Chicago Pot Hole". Customers are also allowed to eat the gelato as they shop for other groceries. The Vero department is a Mariano's exclusive.[3]

Oki Sushi

Oki Sushi is Mariano's in house sushi counter. A variety of different sushi creations are made to order. Oki Sushi also offers pre-made sushi dishes for the customers to pickup and go with. [4]

Todd's BBQ

Todd's BBQ is a Mariano's exclusive department, at Todd's BBQ customers can have any meat they've purchased from Mariano's Meat Department grilled while they shop. Todd's also offers different specials that vary by month, holiday, occasion or time. Todd's offers things such made in house rotisserie chickens, smoked ribs, briskets and sliders. All of these can be made while the customer shops.[5]

Self-service areas

Mariano's offers a variety of self service counters for customers to use. The salad bar is a large buffet style self service counter where customers can create their own salads from a large variety of options, salads are sold by weight. The soup bar is a self service area where customers can serve themselves hot soups, soups are sold by three sizes, small, medium and large. The Soup Bar offers a variety of different types of soup. The Hot Foods Bar is a self service area that has different options depending on the day ranging from chicken tenders all the way to taco fix-ins, customers can serve themselves a meal of there choosing, The Hot Foods Bar charges by weight. Throughout the stores there are other self-service options, customers can make their own almond or peanut butter fresh in store by using the available machines. Customers can make their own trail mix from a large variety of nut and sweet options provided to the customers buffet style. [6]

Oyster Bar

The Oyster Bar is another Mariano's exclusive. Customers have the option of ordering fresh oysters by the half or the full dozen, a variety of different oyster's are offered depending on the availability and the season. Customers can either eat there oysters at the bar or the tables in the oyster bar area or can choose to take the oysters home with them. Oysters are shucked fresh when ordered and are shucked in front of the customer. The oyster bar also has a TV for viewing entertainment such as sporting events while eating. Customers have access to a variety of alcoholic or non alcoholic drinks served at the oyster bar as well as seafood soups such as the clam chowder or the lobster bisque. Everything available at the oyster bar is served by a trained bartender.[7]

Liquor Bar

The Liquor Bar at Mariano's is a full service bar. Customers are able to order drinks and consume them either at the bar, bar tables or as they shop for other items. Shopping carts at Mariano's have cup holders to hold drinks. The Liquor Bar has a TV for customer entertainment. Customers are allowed to purchase food and consume it at the bar while they have a drink. The Liquor Bar hosts "Take-Overs" where different brewing companies can send representatives who sample the breweries products.[8][9]

Cheese Shop

Mariano's Specialty Cheese Shop is a department that has lots of unique and hard to find cheeses. Customers are offered samples of cheese and can have cheese cut and shaped however they want by the Cheese Shop employees. Customers can get recommendations on cheese and wine pairings as well as what cheeses go well with what meals from the trained employees.[10]

Sweet Shop

Mariano's Sweet shop offers customers a range of different sweets. ranging from fancy chocolates, caramel dipped apples all the way to special flavors of made in store popcorn, flavors such as "Blue Raspberry", "Green Apple" and even "Bacon Cheddar" are just some of the different popcorn flavors that are made fresh from kernel to corn in Mariano's Sweet Shop. Chocolate dipped fruits are also offered. Customers can call in and have large orders created for them to come and pick up. Unique treats like log cakes are also offered in the sweet shop.[11]

Squeezed

Squeezed is Mariano's fresh made juice counter, customers can order fresh made juice drinks and juice smoothies from Squeezed and consumer them while they shop for other items. Every drink is made to order and uses fresh ingredients from the produce department. Squeezed offers customers many different options and creations, the go-to base for any creation at squeezed is coconut water but alterations are made depending on customer preference.[12]

Clicklist

Clicklist is available at only a few Mariano's locations but is expanding to more locations. Clicklist is a order online pickup curbside at store service. customers can order anything that they get in store through the service. Meat, Vero, groceries, oysters. If the customer can get it in the store they can get it through clicklist. Clicklist is free for the first order then customers will be charge $4.95 for each order after. Customers can purchase a yearly subscription to the service for $99.95 or a monthly subscription for $14.95, a subscription removes the $4.95 charge.[13][14]
