Maria Yatrakis, also spelled Maria Giatrakis (born 10 June 1980), is a Greek-American soccer goalkeeper. She played for the Greece women's national football team at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She played collegiate soccer for the University of Connecticut Huskies.[1]
Yatrakis was born in Brooklyn Heights to Greek immigrant parents. She played soccer for the Connecticut Huskies women's soccer team. After college, she tried out for the Women's United Soccer Association but was cut; afterward she worked as an assistant soccer coach for the Columbia University Lions. With the Athens Olympics approaching, she applied for Greek citizenship in 2002, and joined the Greek national team in 2002. She was one of several Greek-Americans on the team.[2]
