Malimbada Divisional Secretariat is a Divisional Secretariat of Matara District, of Southern Province, Sri Lanka.
Boundaries
North By : Akusessa Divisional Secretariat Division.
South By : Matara And Weligama Divisional Secretariat Division.
East By : River “ Nilwala”
West By : Welipitiya Divisional Secretariat Division.
This Division Is Also Closely Connected With The River Nilwala. It Is 10 Km Away Fromm Matara District, And Presently Converting In To Sub Town. The Main Road System From Matara To Inner Parts Of The City Is Spreading Across This Division. Today This Division As A Migratory Zone Becomes A Very Crowded Area. At Present There Are 36742 People Living In This Division And Specially Most Of Them Are Well Educated And Actively Engaging In The Development Process Of The Country.
This Division Has A Very Proud Historical Background. There Are Evidences That This Division Wascrowded From Ancient Anuradhapura Era. There Is A Historical Belief That The People Who Got Rid Of Thirsty By Using “Maha Linda” When Along Going The Nilwala Basin And Entering In To The City Across Mathota And The Place When This Well Was Situated Is Referd To As “Mahalindabasa” And Later It Was Changed To “ Malimbada According To “ “Bodiwansa” A Branch Of “ Sri Maha Bodhi” Was Planted In “ Ganegama Iharaya” During Anuradhapura Era. In The Past This Area Was Ruled Under The Patronage Of King And The Divisional Kings Were Stayed In This Division Was Proved By The Places Called “ Rajagewatta” , “ Bisodola” , “Maligathanna”, “ Diwrampitiya” Etc. One Of The Queen Called “ Kalyanawathee” Who Was Ruled Under The Polonnaruwa Era Was Donated “ Alkiriya Gama” To The Temple Situated In Weligama Was Now Referd To As “ Algiriya” In This Division.
It Is A Special Feture Thair . The Malimbada Divisional Secretariat Division Has A Various Topographical Features Although The Land Area Of This Division Is Small. Flowing Of Nilwala River In One Side And The Paddy Field Attach To That And The Scattered Mountains With About 300 Feet Enhance It’s Scenic Beauty.
This Area Is Having A Moderate Climatic Condition And Also Under The Threat Of Frequency Flopd. The Main Occupation Of The People In This Division Is Paddy Cultivation.
In Addition To That Mainly Coconut And Cinnamon Cultivation And Additional Crops Such As Rubber, Tea And Pepper Etc. And The Other Cultivation Such As Jak, Bread Fruit, Coffee And Aericunut Etc. Can Be Seen. As The Road From Matara To Akuressa Deniyaya Is Going Across This Division. This Area Has Become A Centre For Economic And Commercial Purposes. Junctions Of Malimbada And Telijjawila Gradually Turing In To Commercial Centers.
This Area Is Steping In To A Quick Progress As A Result Of The Construction Of Highway And The Programs Of “ Gama Neguma” And “ Maga Neguma” With The Gradual Approach Of Matara Town In The Inner Part Of The City, The Businessmen Also Spreacling In To The City. As A Result Of That The Special Features Can Be Seen Such As The Conjested Area And Development Of Business And Commercial Activities.
As A Result Of The Conctruction Of “ Seva Piyas” In Rural Level In The Division, People In The Area Will Be Able To Enhance The Livelihood Development And Spiritual Development.
Malimbada Pradeshiya Sabha Also Doing A Marvelous Job In Physical Development Of The Division, And By Enhancing The State Of Health Of The People In The Division, The Divisional Helth Service Directors Office Also Doing A Great Job. Zonal Educational Directors Office And The Affiliated Schools Also Done A Precious Work For Developing The Educational Activitien Of The Children. “ Govijana Kendraya “ In Serving Farmers In The Division And Helping For The Activities Of Agriculture In The Division.
