Maidan is a scenic valley in the Lower Dir District of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.The peoples Living in Maidan Are Pushtuns.The Majority Tribe Living In Maidan is Tarkani also called tarkalani.Maidan was not directly under controlled by Pakistan governament at the time of partition, the valley was govern by nawab named "nawab Shah jehan" worked as sepreate state named "Royal State of the Dir" till 1960s.In 1961,Maidan came directly under Governament of Pakistan
The main bazar of Maidan Valley is Kumbar. There is a rural health centre situated at Lal Qilla. Kumbar is the main business center of the valley. The valley passes through high mountains that are covered with snow in the winter season.
Maidan is known for its lush green mountains and springs in the summer season. Kumber, being the capital village of Maidan valley, is a big trade centre comprising many commercial markets. People from various villages of the Valley come to Kumbar Bazaar daily to fulfill their needs. Most of the population of valley go abroad for earning their livings.lying in the east of kumbar.
Tehsil Maidan has recently been declared as Sub Division which comprises on 05 Union Councils namely Lal Qilla, Kotkay, Bashigram, Zaimdara and Gal. There are 02 Police Stations in Maidan namely Lal Qilla and Zaimdara.
The people of Maidan are highly educated as compared to other parts of the District, But it is regretted to say that so far there is no governament College (forFemale) in Maidan.In 201 a man named Malak Rehman Ullah worked for female education and built private education institute for girls named with Rayyan Education System.Rayyan Education system is a new hope and sunshine for the girls of valley and can get cheap education in this priavte institute from prep to High standard school(College).The students are getting their higher education in the other Districts of the Province or in Degree College Timergara for which they spent a lot of money.
Religions, language and peoples
The peoples of Maidan are Pashtuns and they speak pashto language.These all are Muslims and believe in Islam(sunni).
Early Maidan
Early Maidan was under the Nawab rule.But after 1965 Maidan or Dir became a part of Islamic Republic of 
Crops
There are many crops found in Maidan but wheat, Maize and Rice are found mostly in this region.
Politics
The politics of maidan dir lower arise day by date and the people contributed more and more. there are four main parties taking part in politics JI,PPP,ANP and PTI. Jumat Islami had won the provisional assembly seat till date except in 2008 election as they had boycotted the GE.But in the coming election (2018), PTI has more chances to win the election, as its fame increasing day by day.
